Dippy is a dinosaur, a diprotodon. These creatures
were the biggest wombats that lived 100,000 years ago. For those children
obsessed with dinosaurs the facts must be correct. Now to the story. Dippy has
been asleep, but in someone else's nest. So begins his day out, looking for
food and finding a new place to rest. Dippy explores his prehistoric world with
his fellow creatures sharing rather than enjoying each of his attempts.
Written in simple but humorous rhyme and reminiscent
of the original wombat series from this successful team, the book will be popular
with both parents and children. There are lots of opportunities for children to
guess what happens next and share the trials of this clumsy but loveable
character. This book reads well aloud to a group and makes a gorgeous lap sit
title to share. Once again Bruce Whatley's illustrations are economical but speak
loudly with action and expressions. The title would work well in preschools,
library story times and at home for ages 2 to 5 years.
