Time for Adventure, Daddy
by Dave Hackett (UQP, 2020) ‘Time for . . .’ series. Hardback, RRP $24.99 ISBN 9780702262852

This picture book has a fresh, clean design and the tactile embossing of the bright cover is pleasing in the hand. The cartoon smiley faces and the sunny colours signal to the reader that they are in for an upbeat reading experience.

A little girl is ready for an outdoor day of adventure. Her father needs persuasion. In this story, Dave Hackett flips the roles of parent and child, having the daughter persuade and instruct her father about going on a picnic, how to prepare, and what to take.

This is the third in the series –other titles ‘Time for School, Daddy’ and ‘Time for Bed, Daddy’ indicate that these books are designed to celebrate the bond between father and daughter. So suitable for fathers’ day!

The fun, optimistic family story includes domestic detail, food, pets and sunshine. What more could a picture book reader ask for?
