Bluey: The Pool (Puffin Books) HB RRP ISBN 9781761040849
Bluey has been a phenomenal
success since airing on ABC KIDS in October 2018, amassing legions of dedicated
fans and hugely popular ranges of books, toys, clothes, games and more. It
holds the coveted position of being the most watched program ever on ABC iView,
with over 260 million plays for Series One, and is the winner of an
International Emmy for Most Outstanding Children’s Programme. There are
numerous books in the series: Bluey: The Beach: was winner of the
2020 ABIA Book of the Year.
Bluey is a six-year-old blue heeler pup who loves to play. Along with
her friends and family, Bluey enjoys exploring the world and using her
imagination to turn everyday life into an amazing adventure. In Bluey: The
Pool, Bluey and his brother Bingo head to Uncle Stripe’s pool with Dad.
Everything seems to go wrong: the kids don’t have their thongs and the footpath
is hot, Dad’s forgotten their rashies, floaties, and sunscreen, and Bingo’s
scared of the pool crawly. The kids are bored, freezing, starving. Thank
goodness good old Mum turns up to save the day.
Written in third person, present tense,
this board book is bright and colourful, its story unimaginative and dull.
However, the success of the series is surely what matters most. This is book
22.
