The Girl Who Noticed Everything by Jane Porter, illustrated by Maisie Paradise Shearring (Walker Books) HB RRP $27.99 ISBN 9781406398144
Reviewed by Kylie Buckley
There are so many things to notice
every day and young Stella is intrigued by it all. On a trip to the park with
Dad, she spots shivering birds in branches, patterns in leaves and everything
else in between. When Stella remarks on people’s unusual appearances Dad tells
her that she might offend, and he suggests that she stops noticing things.
Stella becomes disheartened when she can’t share her curiosity. With her
inquisitive nature stifled, she tries to keep her thoughts to herself… until
she notices something that may help someone, and she knows she mustn’t keep it
to herself.
The Girl Who Noticed Everything is a beautifully descriptive picture book
that would appeal to children aged 4–6 years old. The illustrations, created
using mixed materials, support the text and offer many detailed double-page
spreads to keep the young audience engaged. This book is written and
illustrated by the award-winning UK duo that created The Boy Who Loved Everyone.
