Ratbags: Midnight Mischief by Tim Harris, illustrated by Shiloh Gordon (Puffin Books) PB RRP$14.99 ISBN 9780143777458
This is the second book in the Ratbags series, a book
where there is a massive problem. There are three rats, Jigsaw, Ripple, and Onion.
Three rats, two ratbags. Jigsaw is not a ratbag because he believes in rules,
strange for a rat because most rats like to cause mischief. Jigsaw has given
rats a good reputation with humans. This, of course, needs fixing pronto, and
the ratbags are on the case. The question, though, is, will Jigsaw be able to
keep away from the midnight mischief? This nightmare situation needs fixing, pronto, and Ripple and
Onion are the best ratbags for the job. But while performing some ratty mayhem,
they fall into Cracker the cat’s claws… Will their midnight mischief turn them
into a midnight snack? Or will Jigsaw find a way to save them? Again!
This book, highlighting
humour with heart, is not at all conventional. It’s like reading a comic, with
full-page black and white cartoon illustrations, speech balloons, and many font variations. This means that any kid reader who likes funny texts and
illustrations is sure to enjoy this.
The author Tim
Harris is the bestselling author of several laugh-out-loud series for kids,

imagination.
