Reviewed by Kylie Buckley
Our Mob introduces its audience to 14 proud Aboriginal children from 14
different traditional countries. Each child greets the reader in their
traditional language and tells them which country they are from. Then they describe
something they and their family like to do together, including playing music,
cooking, storytelling, fishing, painting, smoking ceremonies, and bushwalking. The
full colour illustrations that complement the text have been beautifully
created by contemporary Noongar artist, Seantelle Walsh.
Our Mob is a picture book for early childhood that celebrates the diversity of
Aboriginal culture and their connections to family and Country. It encourages
everyone to tell their story and be proud of who they are. Our Mob is highly recommended for kindergarten and lower primary school
students. The book has been printed in both hardback and paperback.
