The full title of this heavy tome (381 pages) is The
Ultimate Collection of Brilliant Bedtime Stories with RA Spratt but
the stories are more competent than brilliant. Despite this, it is claimed that
the children’s podcast of the same name has over three million downloads.
The book comprises 28 short stories, all of which end
with a fun fact. For example, the first story ‘Medusa’ as told by Nanny Piggins,
ends with information about Medusa’s image being featured on the flag of
Sicily. The stories are related by the author herself (aka Mum), and Nanny Piggins.
The latter is the protagonist in a series of books by Spratt who has also written
a series about a girl detective Friday Barnes, another series about the Peski
Kids, and several other books of short stories.
This latest book features another never-before-seen
Friday Barnes mystery, as well as tall tales from Spratt’s own domestic life.
