The numerous Humdingle family members live in a tiny house with one television, one toilet, and one bedroom, and it’s never lonely or boring. But it is squashy. They wish for a humongous house to drop from the sky – and one night it does. Now they have many, TVs, their own bedrooms and a choice of toilets, but the house feels empty. So they decide to move back to their tiny house, with one addition … a second toilet!
Ideal for children aged four to eight, Michelle Wilson’s sweet story is a charming celebration of intergenerational connections and the importance of communal experiences. It’s also a gentle warning to be careful what you wish for. When the Humdingles acquire the house of their dreams, they soon lose the one thing that truly makes them happy: a strong familial bond.
P.J. Reece reflects the quiet nature of the text with the muted tones in his illustrations. Amusing vignettes highlight the unique scenarios that occur when so many people live together in a small space, while larger images are packed with a wealth of witty details for small eyes to discover.
Engaging
and entertaining, The Humongous Humdingle
Family and the Tiny House is the
perfect book for parents to read to children at bedtime. In doing so, they will
embrace the essence of the story: sharing is caring.
