Big Kids is an early reader about ‘big kid’ Ella
getting herself ready to return to school. The text is written in simple
sentences and is designed to be shared and read aloud between young children
and their parents/carers. Children are encouraged to ‘sound out’ the bold word
on each page, most of which can be decoded using basic letter-sound
relationships and one digraph (ck).
Big Kids is the second book in the Ella’s World early reader series. Each book focuses the bold words on a different
set of phonemes. There are currently three books in the series. The first book is Sit Bob, Sit!, and the third book is Munch Lunch.
‘Ella’ is the popular protagonist in many Scholastic book series, including Meet Ella, Ella & Olivia, The
Ella Diaries, and Ella at Eden.
