Revenge of the Toxic Space Potato by First Dog on the Moon (AKA Andrew Marlton). Allen & Unwin 2024. Middle-grade paperback RRP $19.99. ISBN 9781761066771

Who is the Toxic Space Potato,
and more importantly, what does he want with Earth and the heroes of this
story? Letitia, Binky, and Worried Norman are no ordinary teens. They are the
superheroes better known as the Indefatigable EnviroTeens. They have
been space snorkelled (sucked up by giant tubes),
teleported through the galaxy, stripped of their powers, and squeezed out on
Mars. They are forced to join the Great Snorkel Manufactory, devised by
the evil Baron Kartuffelpoffen, AKA the Toxic Space Potato. They overhear his plan
to snorkel up the entirety of the Earth’s water (which really sucks!) and have
to head him off. Can their trusty sidekicks, Stuart the Wobbegong and Beverley
the sourdough starter, come to the rescue?
From the publisher…” An
hilarious, full colour illustrated cosmic quest featuring friends, fiends and
friands with a real punch, intent on saving the world from climate disaster.”
Author Andrew Marlton is an
award-winning Guardian Australia cartoonist, bandicoot enthusiast, and
“national treasure.” He has done books, radio, and stage shows. Included are several
adult-type foods and other references, which the target reading group may or may
not get, but it is a fun and wacky story for 8-12-year-old readers regardless. The
evil wheelie bins are a hoot!
